All Aboard the Rumor Train!

Rumored Coachella 2012 Lineup

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, one of the most anticipated and talked about festivals in the world, finds itself amidst a barrage of questions, rumors and controversy once again. Starting in 1999 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Coachella or Coachella Fest for short) has drawn the biggest names in an eclectic array of musical genres. Although the festival is held on what is essentially a huge lawn in the middle of one of the most arid deserts in the country and hours from major metropolitan areas such as San Diego, Los Angeles and Phoenix, it remains a successful three-day event. This is due in large part to the build up and hype surrounding the star-studded lineup–one that is talked about on blogs, social media outlets, music news websites such as Consequence of Sound, and undoubtedly every college campus in the country. Coachella draws together music fans from around the globe and unites them by their love for music, camping, art and an escape from the “real world.” From personal experience I have met Coachella-goers from dozens of countries across the world who attend every year for what they call the best place on Earth.

Many dedicated music lovers attempt to create a logical list of who will play Coachella based on album releases and tour dates. If a big name act releases an album in mid to late 2011, it is more likely they will be looking to play at the festival. Another huge factor in who is most logical to play the festival is tour dates and times. Many artists release their Spring/Summer tour dates months in advance, so if they are in the middle of a European tour on the April 13-22 festival dates you can reasonably rule them out. However, if an artist/band is scheduled to be in the Southern California area during this time, then you can expect them to at least be available from a logistical level, especially if they don’t have a stop in Los Angeles scheduled.

I have read that this is simply a rumored lineup, and also that it is a leaked lineup. My bet is someone with wishful thinking and a knack for Photoshop got his/her artwork to go viral. My personal opinion is that Red Hot Chili Peppers will make an appearance (based on their newly released album and East to West coast tour schedule that ends in Mid March in Texas).

What do you think? Who do you hope to see, who do you think will be there, and are you going?
